Facebook Advertisement for Classic Holiness Sermons

Recently I ran this ad on Facebook for Classic Holiness Sermons. This was really an experiment for me. I had a $50 ad credit to use and thought I would put it to good use and see how many people I could bring to the site by advertising it.

My budget was only $5 a day because I did not want to exceed my $50 credit. As you can see in the chart below there was a couple of days when the ad did not run. This had something to do with the way I had it set up and I had to tweak it and run it again. In total I have actually only used $45 of my $50 credit.

The ad was displayed 293,074 times. It was clicked on 122 times and their clicks lead them to the website where they could hear the message of Full Salvation. In the end it cost me about $.37 per person to get the 122 people to the site. Plus, think about the 293,074 people who had the chance they otherwise might not have had! to hear holiness preaching! Not a bad investment in my book! Now if only I had money to do this all of the time…

The actual number of visitors to the website appears to have increased by about 2,000 visitors over the previous 20 days in which the ad did not run. This increase may or may not have anything to with the ad though. I also created a Facebook Fan site etc.

Is everyone already saved?

I watch/listen to a lot of different preachers online. One thing that troubles me is that many of these preachers (there are many who are the exception to this) address their congregations as if everyone there is already saved - I rarely hear a call to repentance. Whatever your view is on altar calls (which have virtually disappeared), everyone must still repent or perish! We must remember that there are only two classes of people: children of God or children of the Devil! Our job as preachers is to declare the Truth and call all men to repentance!

I was reading a sermon by Charles Spurgeon today and was struck by what he said:

At this day the world is still divided into children of God and children of the Evil One. This distinction ought never to be forgotten and yet thousands of sermons are preached in which it is quite ignored—and congregations are commonly addressed as if they were all the people of God! How shall we preach the Truth of God if we begin by assuming a lie? Yet to assume that all our Hearers are Christians is to begin with an error! Is it not highly probable that men will be built up in falsehood if the very Truth which is addressed to them is stated in a false way? No, my Hearers, we cannot talk to you as all the people of God, for you are not! Some of you are the children of the Wicked One and though it may not be pleasant to be told so, yet it is no business of ours to please you! Our duty is to preach so as to please God and benefit the souls of men—and that can only be effected by an honest enunciation of matters of fact.

May God help us who are preachers to remember this!

Backgound to the "Shocking Youth Message" by Paul Washer

Sometime ago I posted about the "Shocking Youth Message" by Paul Washer. In that message he preached a powerful sermon to about 5,000 young people at a conference. The message wasn't real popular at that time and was widely criticized. I contend that it's the kind of message that needs to be preached.

In the video below Washer gives a little of the background to this sermon. I found it very interesting and I am impressed with his honesty and humility.



Again, he's a Calvinist and I have some theological differences with him, but I feel his emphasis on the necessity of repentance and a changed life are a much needed message in the Church world today.

According to John Wesley in his sermon "On God's Vineyard", Methodist's know the difference between Justification and Sanctification. According to Wesley, it "pleased God to give the Methodists a full and clear knowledge of each, and the wide difference between them."

He continues:

They know, indeed, that at the same time a man is justified, sanctification properly begins. For when he is justified, he is "born again," "born from above," "born of the Spirit;" which, although it is not (as some suppose) the whole process of sanctification, is doubtless the gate of it. Of this, likewise, God has given them a full view. They know, the new birth implies as great a change in the soul, in him that is "born of the Spirit," as was wrought in his body when he was born of a woman: Not an outward change only, as from drunkenness to sobriety, from robbery or theft to honesty; (this is the poor, dry, miserable conceit of those that know nothing of real religion) but an inward change from all unholy, to all holy tempers, -- from pride to humility, from passionateness to meekness, from peevishness and discontent to patience and resignation; in a word, from an earthly, sensual, devilish mind, to the mind that was in Christ Jesus.

It is true, a late very eminent author, in his strange "Treatise on Regeneration," proceeds entirely on the supposition, that it is the whole gradual progress of sanctification. No; it is only the threshold of sanctification, the first entrance upon it. And as, in the natural birth, a man is born at once, and then grows larger and stronger by degrees; so in the spiritual birth, a man is born at once, and then gradually increases in spiritual stature and strength. The new birth, therefore, is the first point of sanctification, which may increase more and more unto the perfect day.

It is, then, a great blessing given to this people, that as they do not think or speak of justification so as to supersede sanctification, so neither do they think or speak of sanctification so as to supersede justification. They take care to keep each in its own place, laying equal stress on one and the other. They know God has joined these together, and it is not for man to put them asunder: Therefore they maintain, with equal zeal and diligence, the doctrine of free, full, present justification, on the one hand, and of entire sanctification both of heart and life, on the other; being as tenacious of inward holiness as any Mystic, and of outward, as any Pharisee.

Who then is a Christian, according to the light which God hath vouchsafed to this people? He that, being "justified by faith, hath peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ;" and, at the same time, is "born again," "born from above," "born of the Spirit;" inwardly changed from the image of the devil, to that "image of God wherein he was created:" He that finds the love of God shed abroad in his heart by the Holy Ghost which is given unto him; and whom this love sweetly constrains to love his neighbor, every man, as himself: He that has learned of his Lord to be meek and lowly in heart, and in every state to be content: He in whom is that whole mind, all those tempers, which were also in Christ Jesus: He that abstains from all appearance of evil in his actions, and that offends not with his tongue: He that walks in all the commandments of God, and in all his ordinances, blameless: He that, in all his intercourse with men, does to others as he would they should do to him; and in his whole life and conversation, whether he eats or drinks, or whatsoever he doeth, doeth all to the glory of God.

Do you know the difference? Are you a true Methodist? I suspect that most who claim the name "Methodist" today are not...

Great Sermon!!

I'm sorry I can't remember whose blog it was that pointed out this sermon but I'm glad they did. Randy Hynes is a great man, preacher and friend. This sermon was preached at Hobe Sound Bible Church. I highly recommend that everyone watch this sermon. The truth of this message is much needed in our day and God used this message to speak to my own heart. Thanks Randy for obeying the Spirit, studying the Word, and preaching such a timely truth for our day!

Your input needed

Soon I am going to be purchasing a domain name and webspace for my site Classic Holiness Sermons. I will be designing a new layout and I hope to really create a nice useful site which will eventually hold hundreds of great conservative holiness sermons from preachers of the past and present.

Here's where I need your help. I want your money. Just kidding. Actually I need some suggestions for a site name. I'm not completely sold on "Classic Holiness Sermons" and I'm afraid the domain name might be a little lengthy (ie. www.classicholinesssermons.com)

One Heart

Wow! I just finished watching Daniel Stetler (the General Chairman of the Bible Methodist Connection of Churches of which I am a part) preach about "One Heart" at the Inter-Church Holiness Convention last night. What an incredible message. I agree 100% and may God help us to be a people of "One Heart" and to rediscover our roots!

Spreading the Holiness Message across the World

You can now visit Sermon Index and find great sermons by some of the great holiness preachers of the conservative holiness movement. As I mentioned in a previous post, the creator of the site Sermon Index has taken the sermons which I have on my site, Classic Holiness Sermons, and has put them on Sermon Index. Now the thousands of people who visit Sermon Index will have the opportunity to hear some tremendous messages from men like: R.G. Flexon, S.D. Herron, J.Wesley Adcock, T.M. Anderson, etc. Go visit Sermon Index and check them out for yourselves! Or of course you can always swing over to Classic Holiness Sermons and listen to the sermon there.

By the way, I'm still hoping for someone to send me some of the sermon tapes they have laying around collecting dust...

Exciting Development!

For awhile now I have been trying to put some of the great sermons by some of the great holiness preachers on the internet. I believe we need to be doing everything in our power to spread Scriptural holiness across the land (and internet :-) and so I have been trying to upload and place some of the great holiness messages by some of the great holiness preachers (past and present) in our movement. My focus has been especially on some of the great preachers of yesteryear.

Some time back I created the site Classic Holiness Sermons. Since it's beginning I have been praying about how to better store the sermons on the web and how to get the message out as much as possible. I love the site SermonIndex and it has been my goal to someday create a site similar to SermonIndex, only with sermons from the conservative holiness perspective. On SermonIndex there are a lot of great classic sermons already.

A couple of days ago the creator of SermonIndex sent me an email offering to host the sermons that I have onto SermonIndex. This was great news to me because I have been using free hosting options that are available, but the problem with free hosting sites is that you can't depend on them and there are a lot of limitations. One site which I had painstakingly upload all of my sermons to and had linked to them, deleted all of my sermons so I have been trying to re-upload them all again.

With SermonIndex hosting the sermons, I will not have to worry about this problem anymore. This is great news! But, the even greater news is that the sermons will also be listed on the SermonIndex website. This means that they will have a much wider audience than just my website alone. I will continue to build my website, but I am excited about the possibilities with the sermons have the large audience of people who visit SermonIndex.

I believe we have the greatest message in the world - the message of full salvation from sin. I am excited about this opportunity to help spread this message via the internet. Already with just the small site I have, I have had quite a few people who have contacted me and have shared how listening to a sermon from the site helped them. Just imagine the potential with the expanded audience from SermonIndex!

Here's where you come in. I need more sermons! If you have old sermon tapes laying around, send them to me and I will put them on my computer and clean up the sound and upload them. If you already have files on your computer, email them to me. It's actually pretty easy to take cassettes and transfer the sound to your computer - I can explain it to you if you need help. I know that there are thousands of tapes and Cd's by some of the great preachers of our heritage that are just collecting dust somewhere. Help me spread the message of holiness by sending me your tapes!

A Warning To America by Keith Daniel

If you have never heard Keith Daniel preach before, or if you have and have not seen this video, I encourage you to watch this video! It's a little lengthy, but it will be well worth your time to watch it all. This is a challenging, convicting, and encouraging message which is desperately needed today!!

"Keith Daniel gives a solemn warning to the Church of Jesus Christ in America, that we must pray before its too late. The church should not use wordly methods to win the world it will not work! The main thrust of the sermon is preached from Ephesians 6:10-18 and the emphasis is that the church needs to get into warfare on their knees. God can still change America and other nations to be God fearing and righteous again."

Revival!

I just watched an incredibly convicting video in which Leonard Ravenhill shares his burning heart for revival in a question and answer session. I encourage everyone to watch this video! May God help us to get on fire for God!
