Pushing buttons

Wow! I didn't realize a post that I wrote late on a Saturday evening would stir up so much interest...

Apparently I pushed a few buttons (no pun intended) with my post about a button (pin). Thanks for all of the comments everyone!

By the way, I have no problem with the pin they are selling. But honestly, do we really think that pin, although it is very nice looking, is going to cause someone to come up to us and want to talk about it? Maybe that will happen (I hope so)...just like the all of the fish that people have on their cars and all of the Christian bumper stickers, and Christian T-shirts, necklaces, key chains, etc. etc. have led multitudes to Christ...right.

While there may not be anything wrong with these things, and I may even have a couple of them myself, God has not called us to use pins and bumper stickers to win lost souls, He has called us to open our mouths and be a witness. Does this mean that we can't use things like these pins as an aid to bring about discussion? No, I don't intend to portray this idea at all. However, if we are using these types of things as an excuse to not open our mouths, then we have a problem.

I grow weary of people who want to excuse their responsibility to speak up for Christ by using these types of things. I also grow weary of the "marketing" of Christianity that is going on and how everyone wants to make a "buck" by selling Christian "stuff."

If you want a good idea about what the world thinks about all of this "stuff," check out this post.

  1. I agree with you 1000% Pastor Earls. Just because we have some "decal" telling others we are a Christian does not give us an excuse to not witness to others. We live in a day when people want to simply "do" church instead of actually being a true Christian. Christ commands each one of us to go and tell others.
