On this date in 1743

Missionary to the American Indians David Brainerd wrote in his journal:
Selfish religion loves Christ for his benefits, but not for himself.
How true that is! (I'm afraid the majority of "Christians" today are guilty of selfish religion...)

By the way, David Brainerd burned out for Christ and died at the age of 29 because of his passionate love for Christ and the Native American Indians. He loved Christ, not for Christ's benefits, but for Christ Himself.

  1. seeking (claiming) "something"for our selves;
    an experience, power, tongues, etc. can only lead to one end... a completely selfish "christian." the exact opposite of true holiness. unfortunately we are saturated with this
    confusion and are reaping its devastating results. apparently it was a problem in 1743 as well.
