An intresting thing happened today. Amazon (see picture below) had kittens about 7 weeks ago. We have three of here kittens left to give away and I'll be happy to let you have all three!
We also have one of Amazon's kittens from a previous litter because she is supposed to be my sister's cat but somehow we are stuck with Theona (see her picture below). While Amazon was nursing her kittens, Theona became pregnant for the first time. So, she began nursing Amazon's kittens.
Amazon tends to be a terrible mother and didn't really seem to mind that her daughter was nursing her step-brothers and sisters. However, when Theona gave birth to her six kittens this week some problems arose. Bear in mind that we still have 3 of Amazon's kittens so with Theona's 6 we had a total of 9 kittens. Anyways, there seemed to be some motherly jealousy going on, because Theona still wanted to nurse Amazon's kittens while nursing her own. Amazon didn't really care to nurse any, but she kept picking up Theona's kittens and carrying them away. We were very concerned because the kittens were beginning to look very sickly because they were being drug around so much.
Well, on Wednesday evening we left to go away for a couple of days and when we
returned home yesterday (Friday) Theona's kittens were no where to be found. We looked around for them, but gave them up for dead. We figured the stress of being drug around by their mother and grandmother finally got to them.
Until today...this afternoon my wife found the kittens underneath our neighbors trailer and they were being taken care of very well...by LadyBug my outside dog!! She was protecting the kittens under the trailed and was trying to nurse them! Unfortunatly (or maybe fortunately since I can't stand cats!) only two of the kittens seem to have survived the trama - thanks to the care of LadyBug. Below you can see a picture of LadyBug taking care of the kittens. The picture is not very good, but you can see the kittens if you look close.
